Terms of service

What you can expect from this site, what we ask of you in return, and — the part that matters most — what an estimate can and cannot tell you. Using the site means accepting these terms.

Who we are

TechWorth is operated by Rabbits Foot Limited, a company registered in England and Wales. In these terms “we” means that company and “you” means whoever is using the site. We are independent: not a retailer, a repairer or a manufacturer, and we sell nothing. Reach us at richard@rabbitsfoot.co.uk.

What the service does

You tell us about a device you own and we estimate which of the available options — keeping it, repairing it, replacing the battery, buying refurbished, buying new, selling it or waiting — is likely to leave you best off, and what each would cost per useful month. It is free, it needs no account, and you can stop at any point.

Every figure we show comes from a source with a date attached, and how we work it out sets out where each comes from and what it can support.

What it is not

This is the section to read twice, because most complaints about tools like this one come from mistaking an estimate for a promise.

Not an inspection. We have never seen your device. A repairer holding it may find something we could not know about, and their assessment beats ours.
Not a quote. What a repair or a replacement costs you is decided by the price you are actually given, not by us. Where we cannot stand behind a figure, we print none.
Not a guarantee of a price. Prices move daily, and around a manufacturer launch they move sharply. We show you when we last observed each one; by the time you click, it may have changed.
Not a prediction of how long anything will last. A support estimate is modelled from what a manufacturer has done before. It is not a commitment by them or by us.
Not advice. Nothing here is financial, legal or professional advice, and it is not a recommendation to enter into any particular contract.

Figures change, and some go out of date

We re-check figures against their sources and show when each was last verified, but we cannot promise every one is current at the moment you read it. Check anything that matters to a decision against the retailer’s or manufacturer’s own published information before relying on it.

If you find a figure you believe is wrong, tell us. Getting one corrected is more useful to us than being right about the rest.

Your side of it

Give us answers that are accurate as far as you know. “I don’t know” is a real answer here and a better one than a guess — the result says how confident it is.
Ask about a device you own or use.
Treat the output as a starting point, and get a quote before committing to a repair.
Be 18 or over. This service is not designed for children.

Buying from a shop we link to

Any purchase is between you and that shop. We are not a party to it, we do not supply, inspect or warrant anything, and we are not responsible for their prices, their stock, their condition grading or their service. Your rights in that purchase are against them.

Please do also tell us if a shop we link to falls short, because it decides whether we keep linking to them.

How we are paid

We may earn a commission when someone buys through a link on this site. It never changes what you pay, and it cannot change what we recommend or the order we recommend it in — the code that decides a recommendation has no access to commercial data, and a test fails our build if that ever changes. How we make money sets it out, and how we score explains what does control the order.

Using the site fairly

Please do not:

Submit requests automatically or in bulk.
Try to get around our rate limits, or interfere with, probe or overload the service.
Scrape the site wholesale, or republish our figures, scores or comparisons as though they were your own.
Present anything from the site as a manufacturer’s or retailer’s own statement.

We rate-limit requests and may block traffic that breaks these terms. Ordinary use will never come near those limits.

Content and links

The words, design, scores and software on this site belong to us. You are welcome to read it, print it, quote it with attribution and link to any page — link freely, we would much rather you did that than copy it. The underlying facts carry their own sources, which we credit where each is used.

Where we link out, we do not control what is on the other end and are not responsible for it.

Availability

We do not promise the site will always be available or free of faults. We may change, pause or withdraw any part of it, and we may change these terms — the date at the bottom tells you when they last moved, and continuing to use the site after a change means accepting it.

Our liability

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded. If you are a consumer, your statutory rights are unaffected by anything here.

Beyond that, and to the extent the law allows: the site is provided as it is, for general information; we are not liable for any loss arising from a decision you make on the strength of an estimate, from a figure that has changed since we checked it, from a repair or a purchase you make elsewhere, or from the site being unavailable. We are not liable for business losses, since this service is for people making decisions about their own equipment.

What we collect and what happens to it is set out in our privacy policy, which forms part of these terms.

Which law applies

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and disputes may be brought in its courts. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland you may also bring proceedings where you live.
